?Changing your Mazda's key fob battery is quick and easy. All you need is the fob, a small flathead screw driver, a CR 2025 3V battery (flat).

  1. Start by removing the key, using the manual switch on the back
  2. Insert and turn the screwdriver into the fob's seam to help gently pry it open
  3. Do the same on the outside of the key fob
  4. Once the covering has been removed, you'll see a circular black piece that is protecting the battery
  5. Remove the covering and the old battery
  6. Insert the new battery and spin it until the positive sign on the battery matches up with the sign on the fob
  7. Replace the battery cover and the fob cover
  8. Check to see that the battery works by clicking on the buttons. The small light in the corner should appear
  9. Once confirmed that the battery works, reinsert your key

Having an intelligent smart key is awesome. You can keep your key in your bag or jacket pocket and your new Mazda can sense when you're close by and automatically unlock the vehicle for you; no more digging around. But like all electronics, there comes a time when you need to update the battery and with these tips above you should be able to fix your fob's battery in mere minutes. Why not consider going out and buying a battery ahead of time so you have one already on hand.

If the steps above don’t work, you can schedule an appointment with our service center team and we'll look at it to make sure nothing else is affecting the fob and/or your vehicle.
