Now that winter is finally gone and spring has sprung, it's time to think about your spring vehicle maintenance. We understand that maintenance and car repairs are not something that every Stamford area driver loves to do, but we also know with the upcoming summer months, you'll want to make sure your vehicle is prepared for any future travel plans. You'll also want to ensure that any winter grime has been removed before the spring fun begins.
What Type of Spring Service Does My Car Need?
Here are six spring services that our Riley Mazda dealership recommends.
1) Exterior Wash & Wax
As you've driven around Stamford and beyond, your car was collecting dirt, salt, and grime leftover from the winter slush and snow. You'll want to run your vehicle through a thorough car wash, with the undercarriage package included, to get rid of anything that has accumulated on your vehicle throughout the winter months. Waxing your car may also be a good idea to help prevent additional grime from collecting.
2) Interior Clean and Wash
Whether you're the type of driver that forbids any form of food or trash in your vehicle or you're one that lets things collect in the back seat, now is the perfect time to go through your car and give it a good spring cleaning. Get rid of any trash, debris, or unnecessary items, vacuum the carpets, floor mats, and upholstery, and wash the surfaces surrounding your cabin. Don't forget to wash the interior windows and clean out the trunk!
3) Oil Change and Fluid Checks
If your car needs an oil change, you'll want to schedule that appointment now. An oil change is quick and essential and will have your vehicle running smoothly in no time. You'll also want to check the other fluids in your vehicle, such as coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and more, to ensure that they are clean, full, and ready to work.
4) Windshield Care
Spring is the time for mud, rain, and dirt. Having good visibility is key, whether you're driving to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center or visiting Cove Island for springtime sun. Make sure that your windshield isn't cracked or dinged, that the wipers are working properly, and that the windshield wiper fluid is full. Don't forget the back wiper if you have one!
5) Tire Changes or Rotations
Did you put winter tires on your vehicle? If so, you'll want to switch out the winter tires for summer tires. Using your winter or snow tires during the spring and summer will result in more wear and tear (meaning you'll have to replace them sooner). Did you keep all-season tires on your vehicle? If so, you'll want to have your tires rotated to ensure even wear.
6) Wheel Alignments
If you've found one of the biggest potholes you've ever seen on your drive to Mianus River Park or Fort Stamford, you may need a wheel alignment. Hitting a pothole, curb, or other road hazard can result in an unaligned vehicle. Left alone, this bad alignment will develop additional wear and tear on your vehicle and could lower your efficiency.
