In the past years, Mazda has maintained a great reputation for its Cx- 3 models being on top of its game when compared to other subcompact crossovers. The 2018 Mazda CX-3 has revisions that promise a sharper driving experience.

Mitsubishi, on the other hand, introduced the RVR line sometime in 2011. It was the entry point to the brand's crossover range. The 2018 Mitsubishi RVR received several updates and is ready to be compared with one of its rival crossovers, the Mazda CX-3.

Design & Style

The look and feel of the 2018 Mazda CX-3 interior are so easy to love. It has a decent front-seat space but a slightly cramped space on the rear. The excellent trim graining spells quality, especially with simulated suede trim. The doors are designed with a reasonable size so that getting in and out of the car is easier.

For the 2018 Mitsubishi RVR, the minor interior enhancements are directed towards reducing the cabin noise. It helps that the gauges are readable and clearer than most counterparts. What annoys most drivers though is that the range of adjustability of the tilt and telescoping steering wheel is very limited.

Technology & Safety

The infotainment system of the Mazda CX-3 is arranged as a rotary dial interface that is easy to learn. It is built with cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, and heated seats for higher trim levels. Its safety features are impressive with the standard ABS, EBDs, and impact airbags for front and side impacts. Optional safety equipment is smart city braking, lane departure warning, and radar cruise control.

For the Mitsubishi RVR, there is an option for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibilities. It has auto climate control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, and passive keyless entries.

Performance

A superb performance is the strongest selling point of the 2018 Mazda CX-3. It has a 2.0-liter single SkyActiv-G engine that churns out 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. It is quick to accelerate from 0-60 mph at a mere 8.5 seconds. The nice thing about this model is that steering feels natural and will never feel twitchy even with quick turns.

The Mitsubishi RVR has a 2.0-liter engine that makes 148 hp and 145 lb-ft torque. It is disappointing considering that the brand has these specs for this engine from 10 years ago. It would be nice if there is an upgrade other than the removal of the five-speed manual transmission in favor of the CVT automatic.

The Bottom Line

For its innovative approach and better functionality, the 2018 Mazda CX-3 easily surpassed the 2018 Mitsubishi RVR that never really changed at all since it launched from years before. The CX-3 is very superior in terms of having an upscale interior and sharper and more responsive driving experience.
