Any ride that challenges the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will definitely have a hard time. Consider its sporty handling and potent turbocharged engine options, and you will truly be amazed. Have a feel of its luxury car-like cabin as well and you will be impressed even more.
Meanwhile, the fully redesigned 2021 Nissan Rogue attempts to compete with the CX-5. This one promises ample passenger space and good fuel economy. This also says it has an upscale cabin. Let us see if it can indeed topple down the Mazda.
Design & Style
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is one ride that offers plenty of cargo space inside. The basic 31 cubic feet configuration expands to 60 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. It also comfortably seats tall occupants in front, with three seats made for average-sized adults at the back. The cushioned seats make the cabin feel luxurious. Wait until you discover its high-end materials inside. This can even be upgraded to include real wood trim pieces and Nappa leather upholstery.
Starting at 31 cubic feet of cargo space, the Nissan Rogue also offers a lot of trunk capacity when the rear seats are folded down. There is an impressive amount of passenger room for the ride. It can seat five occupants comfortably. There may be a decent amount of soft-touch materials inside, but it does not really look and feel as good as that of the CX-5.
Technology & Safety
The 2021 CX-5 has a lot to offer in terms of technologies. It has a 10.25-inch touch screen for its infotainment system. This reads user inputs and responds to them quickly. It displays crisp graphics as well. Aside from integrating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, it supports Mazda Connected Services too. There is a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, four speakers, Bluetooth, and HD radio in this ride. Safety wise, the long list includes a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and pedestrian detection, among others.
The 2021 Rogue carries an eight-inch touch screen for its infotainment system. This one is straightforward and easy-to-use. There is a sluggish response to user inputs, though. It has four speakers, smartphone integration, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Safety features include forward collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and rearview camera.
Performance
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 starts with a naturally aspirated 187 horsepower for its four-cylinder base engine. There is a turbo-four version that can yield up to 250 horsepower. The only engine in the Rogue is a four-cylinder mated with CVT or continuously variable automatic transmission. It can only result in 181 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
There is indeed a lot of reason to be impressed with the CX-5. The Rogue tried but it is not as good enough as this Mazda.
