The 2022 Kia Forte is a sedan which looks great, with a stylish update that has taken it to the next level. It offers an excellent combination of comfort and performance, but is this enough to beat the 2022 Mazda 6, a car which has received adoration for its sharp handling, outstanding value, and turbo power?
Design & Style
The Mazda 6 comes with lots of lovely curvature. The grille is tapered with slender headlights that pin it in place. The outer frame is harmonious and toned, with a rear that is rescinded. Within the cabin, passengers will be presented with seats that are comfortable, and those that purchase the Signature edition will get door panels which are sueded, nappa leather and wooden trim. The Kia Forte has eighteen inch wheels with a profile that has been raked and lowered. In the cabin passengers will be presented with panels that are soft touch, accent stitching and a steering wheel that is flat bottom. The vents are outboard and circular, which greatly improves air circulation.
Technology & Safety
The Kia Forte is better at avoiding crashes than resisting them. Although it is outfitted with features such as emergency automated brakes, blind area monitoring and the ability to monitor the attention of drivers, it performed poorly on both rollover and impact tests. Amenities within its cabin include eight inch touchscreens, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and multiple drive modes.
The Mazda 6 has received excellent safety reviews both from the IIHS and NHTSA. It earned a five star rating for rollover and front passenger protection, and captured the prestigious Top Safety Pick award. It comes with an array of countermeasures which include lane and cruise control, automated emergency brakes, blind area monitoring and a camera with surround view. Amenities within its cabin include keyless start, eight inch displays, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and smartphone interface.
Performance
The Mazda 6 is equipped with an inline 4 engine that is 2.5 liter and capable of generating 187 horsepower with 186 pounds of torque, that is wedded to an automatic six speed transmission. The Kia Forte is also equipped with an inline 4 engine, but it can only generate 147 horsepower with 132 pounds of torque. Its manual six speed transmission comes standard, though buyers who pay more can get a transmission which is continuously variable.
The Bottom Line
The Mazda 6 surpasses the Kia Forte in every way. Not only does it have a more powerful engine, but it has better safety credentials and is therefore safer to operate, making the Mazda the winner.
