The 2022 Mazda CX-5 features one of the most attractive exterior and interior designs in its category. Indeed the interior is so well done that one can mistake it for SUVs with a much higher price tag. Mazda has not skimped on tech features as well and the base model comes with plenty of exciting tech that will make driving this SUV a pleasure. With the 2022 BMW X2, you also get a beautifully designed crossover with a sloping roofline design. While this makes the 2022 X2 a head-turner, it does create problems with cabin space, especially in the back seat. Let us compare these two vehicles and see how they stack up against each other.
Design & Style
Unlike most vehicles in its category, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 features plenty of space in the back seat as well as generous trunk space. For 2022, the Mazda comes with a retouched front grille but retains its distinctive rear design. This makes the CX-5 a head-turner with plenty of curb appeal. With large sporty wheels and an aggressive stance, the CX-5 looks like it is worth a lot more than its sticker value. While the 2022 X2 is equally well designed, this is a vehicle that struggles with cabin design. The rear seat is cramped and there is limited luggage space. This takes away from the BMW's excellent cabin design.
Technology & Safety
With a ten-inch infotainment display and smartphone connectivity as standard across all 2022 CX-5 trims, buyers get excellent value for their money. The infotainment system is easy to use and is controlled via knobs and a rotary wheel. Many other features are available as options as well. With the BMW you get a smaller 8-inch infotainment display. While it is easy to use, the system needs time for one to get used to it. Smartphone connectivity is optional as are many features that are standard on the 2022 CX-5
Performance
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 offers two engine variants. the base model comes with a 2-liter engine and buyers looking for a little more power can opt for the turbocharged variant. All engines however are superb and the vehicle is very responsive. Ride quality is also top-notch, thanks to the superior cabin insulation. The X2 comes standard with a 2l turbocharged engine which also offers this crossover plenty of power. Ride dynamics are excellent and the vehicle is very responsive.
The Bottom Line
While both vehicles have plenty to offer drivers, the BMW suffers from design problems. The limited cabin and trunk space makes it less practical than the 2022 Mazda CX-5. The BMW also offers significantly fewer tech features as standard and even the range of optional features is limited. This makes Mazda a clear winner in this comparison.
