The Bottom Line

The Subaru Ascent seats one extra passenger; but it's a tight fit in back. It has more horsepower but the 0 to 60 acceleration time for both SUVs is nearly identical, and both are tied when it comes to safety. The biggest weakness of the Ascent however is its small touchscreens, small third row and lackluster warranty, which makes the Mazda CX-9 the winner.
