The 2023 Mazda 3 is a very popular car, as it offers a higher end design than many of its rivals and provides a swanky interior with excellent performance. But how does it compare to the 2022 Nissan Versa, a compact car lauded for its affordable price tag, outstanding fuel economy and a roomy trunk?

Design & Style

The Nissan Versa has four doors with a V shaped style grille and a roof which is curvy. The headlights are swept back and within the cabin passengers will be presented with a seven inch touch display and the option of contrast stitching within the seats.  Despite its diminutive size, the cabin offers plenty of head and leg space for passengers along with a roomy trunk that can hold a respectable amount of cargo.

The Mazda 3 looks amazing both in sedan and hatchback form. Buyers now have the option of a Platinum Quartz Metallic style paint option that looks amazing, as do the alloy wheels and dark exterior elements. Those that pay extra can upgrade to all-wheel drive and the seats provide lots of cushioning with the ability to be power adjusted to your heart's content.

Technology & Safety

The Mazda 3 has received the highest safety accolade from the NHTSA as it is well equipped to prevent and protect passengers in the event of a crash. It accomplishes this through stop and go tech, emergency automated brakes, cruise control which is adaptive, and lane management. Luxuries within its cabin include a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, the choice of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, nine inch infotainment screen and satellite radio.

The Nissan Versa has also received a perfect five star rating courtesy of the NHTSA. It has excellent outward vision as well as features such as automated emergency brakes and the ability to monitor blind spots. Luxuries within its cabin include keyless start, cloth upholstery and air conditioning.

Performance

The Nissan Versa has fifteen inch wheels, front wheel drive and an inline 4 engine that is 1.6 liter and capable of generating 122 horsepower that is wedded to a transmission which is continuously variable. It can accelerate from zero to sixty in about ten seconds. Those that purchase the Mazda 3 have the option of getting a 2.5 liter engine that is capable of generating 250 horsepower with the option of front wheel drive and a manual six speed transmission.

The Bottom Line

The Mazda 3 obliterates the Versa when it comes to horsepower and acceleration, but aside from this, the Nissan has some unusual ergonomics and just doesn't have the same amount of luxury features, which isn't surprising given its price tag, making the Mazda 3 the winner.
